Preventing Violence against Women in East Africa and Beyond

Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread human rights violations of our time. A staggering one in three women have experienced physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence (IPV) or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. During this event we shed light on the following question: How to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes? Prevention of violence means changing the social norms that tolerate and allow VAWG to occur. To do this, it is crucial to address the root causes of VAWG: Power Imbalance and Gender Inequality.
