Over the last few years, we have halved the number of countries we work in to improve our expertise in particular regions, and to follow their development trends. FOKUS also hopes that tighter concentration on selected geographic areas will help strengthen collaboration and coordination amongst our organizations in Norway and in relevant regions.
FOKUS’ activities take place in twenty countries in the ' South '. The South includes economically challenged and marginalized nations, which according to the OECD can receive aid. These areas generally lie in the southern hemisphere.
According to our organizational strategy for the period of 2007-2012, FOKUS aims to work in the sub-regions of East Africa, South Asia, Central America and the Andes.
Our member organizations also have projects in South Africa, Palestine and Lebanon, which are prioritized due to their critical political and economic circumstances.
FOKUS has a number of international partners. Our support to international and regional network-building in relevant subject areas is not limited to geographic frameworks. Projects related to the government's action plan on Female Genital-Mutilation (FGM), for example are geographically expansive as FOKUS has wide-spread competency in this area.
