The White Ribbon

The White Ribbon is an organization that engages women in the campaign against substance-abuse. Based upon Christian principles, the organization works to prevent substance abuse of all type, to cherish the family, help drug dependent persons and to provide after-care. The organization was founded in Norway in 1889 and currently works also to promote gender-equality, international peace and understanding.

The White Ribbon is divided into fourteen chapters, and currently has about sixty-five branches. The organization publishes the magazine "The White Ribbon" and owns Riisby Treatment Center.  DHB, or ' Norwegian Women's Christian Temperance Union ' is affiliated to the Women's Christian Temperance Union Worlds (WWCTU).

DHB supports international projects such as "Women and Education" in Villa Lobos in Guatemala, and drug prevention in Kola, Russia in cooperation with the Norwegian Sámi mission’s project "Public companies and care for alcoholics in Lovozero".  They work together with the organization "New Beginnings".

The White Ribbon’s motto is : "for God, the home and all peoples".
