Become a Member of FOKUS

Women’s organizations and women’s networks can become members of the FOKUS umbrella organization  (please see the excerpt  from FOKUS’ by-laws and statutes below).

The annual deadline for application submission is October 1.  Selection processes for membership into FOKUS is conducted during the annual representatives’ meeting in November.  Membership fees are 500 Norwegian Kroner.

Excerpts from FOKUS’ By-Laws  or Articles of Association

§ II Membership – Rights and Responsibilities

1. Every national women’s organization, women’s network with at least 50 female members, who has as their mission to develop women’s interests, can seek membership in FOKUS.  Regional and local sub-divisions or sections can not become independent members of FOKUS.  If a women’s committee seeks membership, the head office of the organization must approve the membership in writing.  Foundations cannot become members of FOKUS.

2. Membership will be binding unless otherwise provided by written notice.

3. A ‘national organization’ in this instance is defined as one that is open for membership across the entire country.  It is not necessary for the organization to have local chapters. 
 § III Representation

1. The representational committee is FOKUS’ highest decision-making body.

2. The representational committee holds a general meeting annually in the month of November.

6. The selection of new member organizations will be done with a 2/3 majority of votes.  Other decisions, with the exception of amendments to the Articles of Association (jr. VI) will be decided by ordinary majority vote.
